Join us for an evening of classical music that celebrates the genius of two remarkable women composers, Elena Kats-Chernin and Caroline Shaw, alongside the passionate compositions of the legendary Astor Piazzolla.
The evening commences with Elena Kats-Chernin's From Anna Magdalena’s Notebook. As one of Australia's most celebrated contemporary composers, Kats-Chernin masterfully weaves intricate melodies that evoke both nostalgia and innovation. The audience will be transported to the era of Bach as we explore her reinterpretation of these historic musical gems, bringing fresh life to the notes that once graced the pages of Anna Magdalena’s iconic notebook. Caroline Shaw, a contemporary luminary in the world of classical music, takes the stage with her “Three Essays”. Through intricate harmonies and thoughtful exploration of timbre, Shaw’s work invites the audience into a world where tradition and innovation coalesce. |
The second half delves into the rhythmic and passionate world of Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla. The T’ang Quartet will perform this section of the evening’s programme with YST Professor of Piano Albert Tiu on piano, playing well-loved works such as Libertango, Oblivion and Le Grand Tango – which will be an invitation to the audience to experience the sultry and spirited nuevo tango that have become synonymous with Piazzolla’s name.
